Reply with quote | #2 | In my limited overseas experience, the day rate is a 75 - 125% premium over what you'd make at home plus a per diem like a living allowance. The spread is due to competition (or lack of) and as compensation for poor conditions. Some desert and jungle areas of Africa get the largest premium, while off shore Indian Ocean and South China sea some of the lower rates. Almost all overseas positions are 12 hour shifts too, BTW.
Ask about travel days. Some overseas operations pay a full rate, half rate, or expect you to travel on your own time depending on how valuable they think you are. Some locations (like the former Soviet Union) have poor connections and there's 2 days of travel time each way. |
